Primary Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Conducts assessments; obtains and compiles information on the health status of the patient and family; identifies other service needs and refers patient or family to appropriate resources
- Consults with patient physician and other professional regarding patient and family care
- Conducts periodic reassessments of patient and family progress, modifying plan of care as appropriate
- Making client referrals to other agencies or community resources, consults with and reports patient and family status to supervisor.
- Provides professional nursing care; performs nursing care within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act and within agency policies; maintains current nursing skills
- Prepares and submits records and reports as required by agency policy and program requirements; prepares and manages clinical patient and family records; documents nursing care and patient and family responses to care; documents teaching and patient and family participation.
- Performs health screenings and immunizations; obtains lab specimens; performs health assessments and lab tests based on patient needs; performs lab screenings appropriate for communicable disease follow-up; reviews lab screening results, providing referral or other follow-up as appropriate; ensures that all testing and immunizations are performed following agency policy regarding medical and infectious waste.
- Organizes and analyzes caseload; responds to new referrals and emergencies as required.
- Attends in-services and other training sessions as required.
- Participates in the orientation of new staff.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Requires a minimum of two (2) years previous nursing experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Wisconsin
- CPR and A.E.D Certification
- Valid driver’s license or the ability to travel between work locations.
- Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Staff Registered Nurse position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for Staff Registered Nurse to possess.
- Public health and nursing principles, concepts, practice and trends related to community health; communicable diseases, their etiology, transmission, control, prevention and general epidemiology issues.
- Essential services provided by public health.
- Quality assurance processes and techniques.
- Knowledge of processes and procedures used in the conduct of various health screenings performed by public health.
- Knowledge of nursing processes in assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation.
- County administrative guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Legislative rules, laws and regulations pertaining and impacting public health issues, services and programs.
- Community resources and related services within and outside of the County.
- Health data documentation requirements and communication.
- Knowledge of health education and training procedures.
- Knowledge of basic computer use and operation of business productivity software or specialty software utilized by the department.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships.
- Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures including those pertaining to confidentiality.
- Ability to prioritize and organize job assignments.
- Ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects, and complete work within established deadlines.
- Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
MINIMUM LANGUAGE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Staff Registered Nurse position (listed above) the following language skills are essential for the Staff Registered Nurse to possess.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and the general public in written and verbal form.
- English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.
MINIMUM REASONING ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Staff Registered Nurse position (listed above) the following reasoning abilities are essential for the Staff Registered Nurse to possess.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Must have ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
MINIMUM MATHEMATICAL ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Staff Registered Nurse position (listed above) the following mathematical skills are essential for the Staff Registered Nurse to possess.
- Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
