Part-Time Public Health Educator

Are you passionate about making a tangible impact on public health initiatives? Dunn County Health Department is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a 
Part-Time Public Health Educator!
In this supporting role, you'll help drive key public health activities by managing department communications and assisting with grant-related work. You will prepare and maintain a variety of communication materials, including social media posts, press releases, handouts, and presentation content to ensure clear and consistent messaging across the community. 

Additionally, you'll support coalitions and action teams focused on community health priorities. This position requires a strong commitment to understanding and respecting the unique strengths, values, and needs of rural communities, as you’ll work closely with partners and residents across Dunn County. Flexible schedule, 24 hours per week, typically spread over 4 or 5 days.

 Anticipated starting pay range is between $24.36/hr and $25.72/hr.
**In addition to hourly pay, the Public Health Educator will receive $2.55 per hour in lieu of fringe pay.**  
 
INTERVIEWS WILL BE CONDUCTED ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2025.

 

Primary Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position.  Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Prepares, tracks and maintains department written and oral communications including social media posts, press releases, handouts and presentation materials.
  • Participates in grant writing efforts for existing and new health education efforts; provides support in tracking department compliance with grant contract objectives.
  • Provides support for coalitions and actions teams working on priorities identified in the community health assessment and community improvement plan.
  • Provides support for on-going community health needs assessment and department program evaluation.
  • Prepares and submits records and reports as required.
  • Responds to local public health emergencies as required.
  • Participates in professional development activities.
  • Participates in department, county health coalition and program meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s Degree in Public Health, Health Education, Communication, Marketing, or other related field.
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year previous administrative or secretarial experience.
 
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to travel between work locations.
  • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.  Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
 
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Public Health Educator position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for Public Health Educator to possess.
  • Thorough knowledge of preparing meeting agendas and minutes
  • Thorough knowledge of standard office equipment, standard office software and presentation software.
  • General knowledge of research methods and techniques for assessing, evaluating and documenting health program performance.
  • General knowledge of community issues, organizations and funding sources.
  • General knowledge of community health reports including charts, graphs and infographics.
  • General knowledge of press releases and social media posts.
  • Knowledge of applicable principles, practices, issues and trends in community health.
  • Knowledge of standard accounting software.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community health action teams, other service provider agencies, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures including those pertaining to confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize job assignments.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects, and complete work within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
 
MINIMUM LANGUAGE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS 
In order to perform the duties of the Public Health Educator position (listed above) the following language skills are essential for the Public Health Educator to possess. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and the general public in written and verbal form. 
  • English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.
 
MINIMUM REASONING ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Public Health Educator position (listed above) the following reasoning abilities are essential for the Public Health Educator to possess.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
 
MINIMUM MATHEMATICAL ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Public Health Educator position (listed above) the following mathematical skills are essential for the Public Health Educator to possess.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records.
