As part of University of Wisconsin-Stout’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, students will volunteer to rake and bag autumn leaves for Menomonie residents from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7.
For more than 15 years, students have taken part in the Fall Yard Cleanup to assist Menomonie residents who may not be able to rake their own yards. Usually about 50 students volunteer for the cleanup, said Student Engagement Coordinator Heidi Schaaf.
“We work hard to ensure there’s a mutually beneficial relationship built between not only our campus community, but also the greater Menomonie community and the Chippewa Valley,” Schaaf said.
The event is organized by the university’s Involvement Center, a hub for civic engagement, leadership activities, student clubs and more in UW-Stout’s Memorial Student Center. The Involvement Center also organizes the annual Meal Pack-A-Thon as well as the ongoing 60 Seconds of Civics series.
The Fall Yard Cleanup will provide an excellent opportunity for media members to tell a seasonally timely and positive story about student volunteerism and community connections. Members of the media who wish to meet student volunteers and to see them in action are invited to coordinate with Heidi Schaaf either by email at schaafh@uwstout.edu or by phone at 715-232-1765 (office) or 715-607-1571 (cell).
