CVTC to Host 10th Annual Family Literacy Event
EAU CLAIRE – Chippewa Valley Technical College will welcome some of its youngest learners Saturday, November 7, as the Foundations of Teacher Education and Early Childhood Education programs partner to host the 10th annual Family Literacy Event at CVTC’s Business Education Center in Eau Claire.
Held during National Family Literacy Month, the free event will offer hands-on literacy experiences for children ages 2-12 and their families. This year’s theme is “Fairytales, Fables, and Fun”.
Throughout the fall semester, students in both education programs develop engaging literacy activities and put them into practice at the event. The experience gives CVTC students a meaningful opportunity to apply their learning in ways similar to what they will encounter in their chosen professions.
Activities will include crafts, games, puzzles, and more. In recent years, the event has grown to include a children’s dance party, read-alouds by local libraries, and a community resource fair connecting families with information about additional opportunities and assistance.
“It’s hard to believe this is our 10th year hosting the Family Literacy Event at CVTC! Each year brings something new, but the purpose has always remained the same: creating fun, memorable literacy experiences for children and families. It’s been exciting to see this event continue over the years, and we’re proud of the tradition we’ve built at CVTC,” said Shalyn Gagnon, Foundations of Teacher Education program director and instructor.
Families throughout the Chippewa Valley are invited to become part of the tradition from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 7, at CVTC’s Business Education Center. The event is drop-in, and families often spend at least an hour exploring the activities and offerings. Guests may park in the visitor parking lot and enter through Door 1 or Door 3.
