Dunn County Humane Society is Hiring Animal Caregivers

All DCHS staff must be passionate about our mission to improve the lives of companion animals in our community, be dedicated to the humane treatment of all animals and DCHS’s “no-kill” philosophy, and be committed to finding permanent adoptive homes for all DCHS Residents.

The Animal Caregiver’s general responsibility is to provide all DCHS animals with everything they need, including:
  • physical needs of water, food, exercise, & clean environment
  • medical needs of grooming, treatments, & vaccinations
  • emotional needs of compassionate care & gentle socialization

Specific Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect all kennels, cages, runs, bedding, dishes, litterboxes, and toys
  • Ensure a clean, healthy, and pleasant environment for every animal
  • Feed, exercise, handle, and socialize animals in accordance with shelter policies
  • Groom animals, as directed, including bathing, cleaning, brushing, clipping nails, and any other duties to maintain the good health and appearance of the animals
  • Observe and document the health and behavior of all animals
  • Perform routine medical tasks for the animals including giving vaccinations and medications
  • Commit to continual learning & professional development including attending staff meetings, online seminars, and trainings

Required Qualifications

  • Open availability with evenings, weekends, & some holidays required
  • Genuine concern, compassion, understanding, & respect for people and animals of all backgrounds
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Positive personality with good communication
  • No history of violent offenses
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work both indoors & outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Physical capability to remain active throughout your shift, including repetitive bending, kneeling, & lifting up to 50lbs
  • Possession of a valid WI State Driver’s license
  • Ability to work independently
Starting at $11/hour
