Inventory Control Supervisor

The Department of Kinesiology, Health, Food and Nutritional Sciences (KHFNS) at the University of Wisconsin-Stout invites applications for the Inventory Control Supervisor commencing in August 2025. The candidate is expected to be a team member who is passionate and committed to the values of UW-Stout. This individual would oversee centralized inventory, hygiene, and coordination of purchasing for the food-related laboratory classes and student/faculty food-related research at UW-Stout. This is primarily focused within the KHFNS department, however, the Heritage Hall academic building renovation scheduled for completion by 2028 will create additional cross-disciplinary food-related programming partnerships with hospitality and education programs. The majority of the work will involve, but is not limited to: receiving, maintaining inventory of foods and cooking equipment for program laboratory courses and research projects, purchasing food items, organizing and managing the centralized stockroom and cooking laboratories, and maintaining inventory records and reports. The individual would exercise supervisory authority of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum / Required:

  • Associate's degree*

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Self-directed and able to work independently

  • Ability to work collaboratively; resourceful, creative and innovative

*All preferred education can be fulfilled with comparable experience.
 
Highly Desired/Preferred

  • Experience working in a laboratory setting

  • Experience with chemical use and disposal

  • Basic knowledge of business software used in food and nutrition laboratories (e.g., MS Word, Teams, and Excel; database/customer relationship management (CRM) applications; etc.)

  • Experience maintaining accurate financial records and reports.

  • Ability to prioritize work

 
Special Requirements

  • A valid Wisconsin driver's license is required for the operation of all state licensed vehicles.

  • Successful completion of an essential job function test

 

 
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors all cycle count programs and ensures consistency and accuracy in programs, and identifies all operational problems in inventory.

  • Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders following established vendor procurement procedures

  • Inspects and inventories received items and processes notifications to appropriate entities

  • Shelves inventory and maintains organization

  • Generates inventory reports to account for available stock and usage

  • Oversee and maintain cleanliness, hygiene and safety of stockroom and laboratory spaces

  • Maintains records of all variances according to establish procedures and ensure accuracy of all product transfers from one facility to another

  • Monitors all procurement requests of facilities and ensures accuracy in all inbound inventory

  • Prepare budget/accounting forms (budget, expenditure, revenue, and payroll transfers; deposits, etc.) to maintain accurate financial records

  • Maintains training, knowledge and credentials of business software used in food and nutrition laboratories (e.g., database/customer relationship management (CRM) applications, ShopUW+, etc.)

  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

  • Collaborates and coordinates with faculty and staff regarding food-related research and instructional needs.

 
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
UW-Stout’s KHFNS Department is responsible for administering the Dietetics; Health, Wellness, and Fitness; and Food Science and Technology programs. Food Science and Technology program is an Institute of Food Technologists (IFT)-approved program. Dietetics-related programs include the M.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics program as well as two programs, the undergraduate Dietetics program and the Post-Master's Dietetic Internship program, which are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).  Candidates who have experience working collaboratively with diverse individuals and/or groups and who can contribute to fostering an inclusive environment are encouraged to identify their experience in these areas.
