"Outstanding" Water Quality Film to be aired at Stout
The film Troubled Waters: A Mississippi River Story, will be shown in UW Stout's Jarvis Hall Room 110 on Wed. Nov. 17th, 7:00--9:00 PM.
The premise of filming something like this was to detail all of Minnesota Stakeholder's contribution to the nutrient-induced Dead Zone in the Mississippi and efforts to reverse the trend.
A free screening was attended by 600 people in the University of Minnesota campus theater to view the film which highlighted how farmers are exploring new strategies and Municipalities are expanding awareness programs so that everyone is knowledgeable of their impact and how to protect the waters that flow to the Gulf. In attendance: state legislators, university researchers and staff, state government officials and sustainability advocates, who applauded the documentary. Senator Ellen Anderson commented on the event which ?establishes that the university should and will be the center of debate on key scientific and political issues in our state.? The reaction was so positive, that the film was recently shown on public television.
?These same discussions are happening among government representatives, neighbors, scholars, and conservationists right now in Wisconsin. "This is why it is so important that we partner with the University of Wisconsin Stout, and Sustainable Dunn's Year of the Water to show the film here. stated Dick Lamers, President of the Tainter/Menomin Lake Improvement Association.
Anyone interested in how to become actively involved and learn conservation methods that can be used for the restoration of clean waters throughout our watershed is invited to attend. A campus map is available at http://www3.uwstout.edu/guide/
