A flapjack fundraiser to benefit the River Heights Community Playground will be held at Applebee's in Menomonie Saturday, April 28 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. UW-Stout's football team members have volunteered to be the "guest" servers during the benefit. The playground, which is onsite at the River Heights Elementary School off Bongy Drive in Menomonie, is open to the community. The organizers of the playground campaign are raising money to replace the outdated equipment that is not accessible to children of all abilities, with new, handicap-accessible equipment. It also will include a play area specifically for toddlers, since parents of all-age children use the playground on evenings, weekends, summers and holidays. The new playground, which will be installed in October, highlights Menomonie's historical roots with areas designated as Mabel Tainter Castle, Caddie Woodlawn Home, Red Cedar River Sandbox, Lumber Mill Maze and Wisconsin Lore and Legends Mural.
