Participants will be able to participate in a one-mile parade, 6 mile walk, one-hour of rocking and/or a 10-mile bike route.
The CROP Walk, Rock & Roll is a new version of the popular CROP Walk that Menomonie Area Bread for the World (BFW) is sponsoring for the 25th year. It is one of the 2000 planned CROP Walks this year to raise money to help hungry people locally and worldwide.
The CROP Walk, Rock & Roll will give people of many interests and abilities a chance to participate. Our goals are to have 200 participants and raise $14,000. One-fourth of the funds will be designated for the Interfaith Food Pantry of Dunn County and three-fourths for Church World Service and other worldwide hunger-relief agencies.
First, all participants-who are able-will join the Hunger Parade to celebrate our working together to stop hunger. Then, those participants - who walk because they walk- will complete a 6-mile route. Participants who are rocking will rock in rocking chairs in the church Fellowship Hall for one hour. And, participants who are biking will follow a route along the Red Cedar Trail to Irvington and back to the church to complete 10 miles.
All participating must register at 1:00 p.m. and the announcents and start of the walk will be at 1:30. All must sign the consent form for insurance. Walkers may walk whatever lenght that they desire. The parade is a witness to the communtiy so brings signs or get one at the church. There will only be 4 rocking chairs at the church. Bikers will follow a route on the North Trail and MUST wear helmets. If any bikers are under the age of 14 they will need a parent or gaurdian. Participants raising over $100 will recieve a free CROP t-shirt. There will be refreshments afterwards and you may get a donation envelope from a church recruiter or Julie McNaughton.
Last year, 120 walkers raised $12,000! Nationally last year, 250,000 CROP Walkers raised over $15 million. Crop Walks are interfaith, community events organized by Church World Service, the relief, development, and refugee assistance arm of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.
Locally, needs are great. The United States Department of Agriculture reports that 1 in 8 Dunn County households is food insecure. Lana Anderson, director of Interfaith Food Pantry, reports, "Last month a record number - 470 families sought emergency food at our Food Pantry."
Worldwide, over 840 million people suffer from insufficient nutrition. A voice from Brazil cries, "Waht is poverty? To come home and see your children go hungry and not have anything to give them."
Let us care - let us respond! Plan now to walk, sponsor a walker, or to help.
