The Dunn County UW-Extension Office will be offering whole plant corn silage moisture testing at the Ag Center. According to Jim Faust, Ag Agent, determining whole plant moisture content is critical to harvest timing and proper storage of corn silage. It is especially important this year due to the cooler than normal weather and drought conditions we just experienced. Faust went on to add that the extreme dry condition has caused a tremendous amount of variability in the field and so it is going to be much more difficult to gauge moisture levels in order to know when to harvest. Farmers should bring in 4 corn stalks cut at the harvest height. Chopping and moisture testing will be done on site.
