CHIPPEWA VALLEY YOUTH SYMPHONY
CONCERTO COMPETITION
FINALS DEC. 6 AT UW-EAU CLAIRE
EAU CLAIRE, Dec. 2, 2008–The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony will be holding its 2nd Annual Concerto Competition finals at 1:30 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 6. The event will be held in Gantner Hall, Haas Fine Arts Center, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The competition finals are free and open to the public.
The 2008-2009 Concerto Competition finalists are:
· Cole Hanson from Hixton attends Lincoln High School
· Olivia Langby from Elk Mound is home schooled.
· Wesley Peterson from Eau Claire is home schooled
· Victoria Shoemaker from Eau Claire attends North High School
· Charis Wong from Hong Kong is an exchange student at Chippewa Falls Senior High School.
Student musicians from the youth symphony qualified for the finals by submitting a musical recording. Each submission was anonymously evaluated by a panel of judges. The top five finalists will perform live on Dec. 6 in front of a panel of judges.

The top three finalists will be announced at the end of the performance. The 1st place winner will be featured during the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony concert season finale, "Celebrating the Talents of Our Youth," on Sun., May 10, 2009. The top three finalists will receive cash prizes.
The mission of the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony is to provide a unique opportunity for area youth to develop and showcase their artistry in the symphonic tradition while enhancing their lives and the cultural environment of the communities in which they live. The auditioned group is made up of more than 65 7th-12th grade musicians from the broader Chippewa Valley.
