University Theatre at UW-Stout presents the musical Cabaret. Cabaret first
opened on Broadway in 1966 and the critically acclaimed production won the
Tony Award for Best Musical. In 1997, Cabaret went through an extensive
transformation for a Broadway revival. Once again, it received critical acclaim
and a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. Cabaret is set in a Berlin
night club on the eve of the rise of the Third Reich. The story and characters
reveal the circumstances that enabled the Nazi Party to flourish and the
destruction that followed. Music and lyrics are by John Kander and Fred Ebb,
who also gave us the smash hit musical Chicago. The score features such
numbers as Cabaret, Wilkommen, Don’t Tell Mama and the Money Song.
Eccentric characters and enticing musical numbers pull the audience in to the
debauched action of the night club and the emotional realities of the situation!
