22nd Annual Highground Bicycle Fundraising Tour will be making one of its favorite stops in Menomonie on Friday, August 11, 2006. The group will be arriving at the head of the Red Cedar Bike Trail in Menomonie. The Western Route of the Tour consists of about 30 riders who will leave New Richmond on Friday morning traveling about 60 miles through some of the most hilly and picturesque countryside in this area before they arrive in Menomonie for an over night stay. Plans then call for an 85-mile ride to Osseo on Saturday for an overnight camping stay. On Sunday morning they leave for the shortest leg of their journey, about a 35-mile ride to The Highground. The Highground is a 140-acre Veterans Memorial Park located three miles west of Neillsville on Highway 10 in west central Wisconsin. Born in 1965 as an idea to memorialize a fallen friend on a battle field in Vietnam, the Highground has grown into a tribute for all veterans.
