Dunn County community members have shown a shared interest in Local Food Networks and a number of innovative projects and discussions have been initiated. The Dunn County UW-Extension along with UW-Stout and West CAP have collaborated to hold the first Dunn County Local Food Summit at the Dunn County Judicial Center, Room 1402, 615 Stokke Parkway, Menomonie on Friday, March 4th, 2011.
The purpose of the Dunn County Local Food Summit is to connect people, begin a conversation about local food networks and identify steps to support future actions.
Keynote speaker will be Ken Meter, whose speech is entitled The Role of Local Food in Economic Recovery. Ken is one of the most experienced food system analysts in the United States and is President of Crossroads Resource Center in Minneapolis, MN. His work integrates market analysis, business development, systems thinking and social concerns.
The summit will also offer lunch provided by Menomonie Market Food Co-op. The afternoon session of the summit will feature an open space break-out group session to allow community members to discuss different themes and topics around local food networks in Dunn County.
The summit will be held March 4th, 2011 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Registration is $5.00 and includes lunch and materials.
