The Reach Foundation to Host Fundraiser to Start New Scholarship Fund

Eau Claire, WI - On November 10th, 2016, The Reach Foundation will hold a unique fundraising event called “Reach for the Stars.”  This event will take place at The Lismore (333 Gibson St.) in downtown Eau Claire.  It will run from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

All funds raised from the evening will go to start a new “Reach for the Stars” scholarship fund that will benefit Reach, Inc. programming.  To start with, two specific programs will be showcased.  All Reach, Inc. programs may benefit from this fund in the future.

The Adult Program at 2205 Heimstead Road serves approximately 140 adults with disabilities.  Of that 140 about 40% attend part time but many want to attend full-time (Mon-Fri 9am-3pm).  Unfortunately their Managed Care Organizations (MCO’s) do not fund full time participation.  This scholarship will help our members who want to attend full-time do so.

The second program the scholarship will benefit is our Supported Employment Services program (SES).  This program places adults with disabilities into competitive community based jobs.  In 2012 SES began working with veterans who are disabled in helping them find community based jobs.  Unfortunately there has been limited funding for this project.  As a result we want to use this scholarship fund to help SES staff dedicate more time to working with veterans who are disabled. 
The Reach for the Stars event will feature a cash bar, dinner, a raffle, and a unique table fundraising component where tables compete to pledge money for the scholarship fund.  The top 3 tables will receive prizes donated from local businesses.  There will also be a silent art auction featuring artwork from Reach, Inc members and staff.  Local artists Terry Meyer and Brian Duerkop have also agreed to donate work for the event.

The evening will feature entertainment from several groups.  En Avant Dance School will be doing a spoken word/dance performance about the joys and challenges of raising a child with autism.  The Reach All-Stars will showcase talent.  Finally the headliner of the evening will be The Special Angels which is a dance group within the Eau Claire school district that features children and young adults with disabilities.
